WWII Veterans Recognized at AHS

At the Arrowhead Football game on Friday, September 7th, World War II Veterans,  Bill Hilger and  Bruce Pfieffer were recognized during a ceremony prior to the game.  These two fine men served our country and were recognized by over 3,500 students, parents, and fans that were in attendance.

Below Bill Hilger and Bruce Pfeiffer tip their hats as they are introduced to the crowd.

I want to personally thank Ron Reichle, social studies teacher, who has organized recognitions of our veterans at Arrowhead athletic events for the past two years.  It is great to recognize our veterans and to present opportunities for our young people to gain an appreciation and acknowledge those who have given so much on our behalf.  Nice job Mr. Reichle!

Sincerely and with great respect,

Craig Jefson
Superintendent
Arrowhead Union High School District

Welcome to the Arrowhead Union High School District "Superintendent's Blog."  It’s my honor to serve as the Superintendent of Schools for Arrowhead High School and I am humbled by the opportunity to be part of such an exceptional organization.

While the educational community has faced many challenges recently, our collective work, commitment, and dedication on behalf of our young people remains unchanged.  We will not lose sight of the 2,244 reasons we report to work each and every day – our students.  What we do is for our kids.  Each of us can name a teacher, a circumstance in a classroom, or an experience where a staff member has made a significant and lasting impression on the life of a student.  Educators come in all ages, shapes, and intellects, but uniformly, they possess gifts that create bonds with students to encourage learning.  Daily, we are asked and must answer questions that go to the heart of the students' most basic needs:  "Can I trust you?"  "Do you care about me?"  "Do you know what you are talking about?"

As educators, we have all heard the question raised of what can be done to improve schools.  We all know there are no simple answers when it comes to improving schools.  The 19th century writer H.L. Mencken observed “For every complex problem, there’s a simple solution –and it’s always the wrong one.”  In a recent report from McKinsey & Company titled, How the World’s Best-performing School Systems Come Out on Top, it was concluded after examining the top-performing school systems in the world, that 1) the quality of an education system cannot exceed the quality of its teachers, and 2) the only way to improve outcomes is to improve instruction.  This is anything but a simple task.  Fortunately, at Arrowhead we have had a tradition of quality learning experiences, which have resulted in high student achievement, however, we can get better and we will.  Albert Pike once said, ““What we do for ourselves dies with us.  What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.”   Pike’s quote reminds us of the importance of what we do as educators and the impact we have on our student’s lives.

Please visit our Blog regulary and make sure to establish an RSS feed to receive information on the great things happening in our school and to stay updated on what is happening at Arrowhead High School.

I truly look forward to sharing the journey -- both for its opportunities and its challenges.  Arrowhead is a wonderful District in which to work-- it has outstanding students, highly qualified and dedicated staff members, and a supportive and generous parent community. I continue to feel privileged to be your Superintendent.  I want to thank each one of you for your contribution to our children’s success. We could not successfully accomplish our mission without you.

Sincerely,

Craig Jefson

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.  Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.  It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do.  It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.  It will make or break a company…a church…a home.  The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.  We cannot change the inevitable.  The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude…I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.  And so it is with you…we are in charge of our attitudes.”
